mod to change them or make them different? i want one forum on the home display to have red links and white text...and another forum to have silver text and blue links

you need to make a template for each of the forum...make a child template of your current design and adjust the CSS to suit your needs per style...then apply the templates to the desired forums.

yeah, that works once u click on the forum, i was more referring to when you are just looking at the home page of the forum, i have a forum called "off-topic" and "general discussion" on the home page...id like off-topic to be yellow and general discussion to be green...something like that...how would i go about doing this? seems like i would need to somehow target this by forum id?

ok that will require some custom CSS and template coding. I don't know how to customize it on a forum basis though.
