Not sure this is in the right forum, when i installed my forum it was only 2 days later before i got about 15 new members a day. 14 of them were spam bots.
So i used the image verification no luck there, i used the email confirmation thing and no luck either. From 15 to about 6 a day. Then i added the question "Are you Alive?" You need to click yes, no or sometimes or you cant finish the registration. 2 weeks later and not a single spam bot has registered. I know that i'm not the first one with something like this, just posting it in case someone needs a quick fix to stop those spammers. Admin CP > User Profile Fields > Add New User Profile Field > Multiple-Selection Checkbox > fill in the question you want and make the field required set to yes. I also removed the image verification, i hope this helps. Kind regards |

I haven't had any problems with spammers yet, probably because I require a zip code.

We require x ammount of posts to post links and that helps since most spammers try to post a link

Good idea, but that does not stop them from registering.

I dont know this for sure, but I think turning off email activation actually helps
Ive seen the bot software in action, it monitors the email account and waits for the confirmation email, confirms, then hits the forum to post, if the email never arrives, it may never post I use the timezone mod and havent had a bot register in almost a year |
