Is there a way to find out whats using up most of your disc space on your forum?

or what sort thing normally uses up a lot of space?

Usually it will be your database, with attachments being a big piece of that.

Your control panel should be able to give you a breakdown, but it will just say "database"

If you want to see how it breaks down you can get that through phpmyadmin, or even your ACP

Maintenance -> Repair / Optimize tables

That will show how much space each table is using.
