reading so many articles about coding has gotten me very excited

well,

my name is mystic...real estate agent by profession few monts back got vbulletin and learned how to put hacks in..i know silly as i didnt even know what chmod was or even what a hacks was had no clues whatsoever..got my way up to a stable forum and now very entusiastic about puting my ideas into hack...i am eager and faster learner but dont know where do start...i have dabbled a little with the exsisting codes and tried to learn from all the error...however i have ideas but dont knw what tools i need for me to start puting my ideas into practice

so i was wondering if someone can give me a boost or even direction on what tools i need and where to start

my first hack idea:
smiles: i wanted to make sections for smiles and have them turned on and off...means if its valentines than i can turn on the valentine smile folder and the smiles will show in the forum...right now i have to delete all the smiles and them put them back again so they wont show in the forum

maybe if not help than a helpful direction
