Well what im trying to do is start a Car Performance Related Site that all in one, I want to have a Huge photo gallery, Video vault, soo the users can upload videos and photos of their car. I want to have different article sections of news featuring upcoming cars, products, another video vault guide to installing products, a project section, etc... of course this whole site to be linked to the vbulletin user database to it, have a free, silver, gold and platinum accounts for users to pay and have greater access to the site, upload more pics, upload more vids, get access to HD video tutorials, etc...
Now im not a php guru soo my skills are limited, do you think i would be in over my head with attempting to do the following with the vbadvanced/vbulletin software or another popular CMS without any professional help? |

Why not just pay for a professional?
I have been using vbulletin for quite some time without any formal source code training and it only requires time and willingness to try and try again until you succeed. |

one reason why i cant pay is money unfortunately i dont have 2 grand to drop on this, another is i wanna be able to maintain and run it thus if i dont know what modifications where done behind the scenes how will i be able to trouble shoot if something else goes wrong.

It doesn't hurt to jump and try learning everything.
If you hired someone to build it for you, they should be able to tell you what is installed and what is not, what is customized, and provide source files unless you have an agreement otherwise. Fortunately, if not a total hack job, you can disable every product ad on to troubleshoot issues with the forum. |

I wouldn't waste your time, there are already so many other car sites that do exactly this unless you're offering something none of them have you're going to have a heck of a time trying to get members and the such, unless of course you drop tons on advertising.

well i opened the forum already at one point before the main site was ready and members started pouring in but i shut the forum down momentarily to build everything then relaunch the WHOLE site(all the stuff i included in the first post). since the shut down my inbox has been filling up with emails from members and guest visitors asking when the site will be relaunched again soo member appreciate it, want to come back and other want to join. secondly me and a couple of people started developing custom performance parts and integration parts that opened up a whole new window of modification for mustangs soo we have an edge on the competition, through offering troubleshooting and feedback on the site. mayb it will work maybe not but i gotta give it a shot, do you trully know for sure that the site will crash and burn no, do i know its going to prosper no. but its worth a shot.
anyone have any experience with phpnuke, joomla... or any of those open sourse CMS one person recommended http://www.interspire.com/articlelive/ i tried contacting customer service explaining what i am trying to do but i havent heard anything back yet. Gonna try a second time also . |
