Combine forums? (Like, dump all into one and keep original + 'updated')
Let's say I have these forums:
1,2,3 (subforums) under forum 4 (1,2,3 are the children of parent 4.) And I have another forum, 5, which is a child of another parent forum 6. How would I combine forums 1,2,3 into forum 5 yet keeping forum 4.

Its not possible under default because you would have to have copies of threads in multiple forums which all update after a new post. I don't know if there is a mod here at vBulletin that does it.

Add the sub forums as links. Create a subforum and make it link to the other forum. I have done this on my site but made a link to another site as a subforum. Works great. The only thing is the subforum icon doesnt light up with new posts and it is the link subforum Icon. If that bothers you and you only use that subforum link as a subforum. You could rename a copy of the subforum icon to the name of the link subforum icon and presto, they will match. It wont light up with new posts but it will match.
Hope that helps... |

I assume he wants to keep different threads in the different forums (1, 2, 3) though and not combine them unless the user is in forum 6. Using your method all the threads will be in 5 and you won't be able to find threads that would be separate in forum 1, 2 or 3.

YEah.. hmm
He could try linking to 4 and it will open to the page of 1,2,3? Otherwise he will be busy copying lots of threads LOL |

Well, it's kind of like what the search button does.
It gets all the threads from those forums and outputs it to the user to see. |

hmmmm Does the search feature have a timeout on IDs?
I did a search on vb.org. Highlighted 3 forums (hold control down and click) then I searched the word the** with 2 wild cards. Which will almost certainly bring up all posts LOL like this https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/search.php?searchid=7359030 I do NOT know if that search id times out though? If it stays active you could link to something like that? Im pretty sure it times out though.. I dont play with the search feature to much. --------------- Added [DATE]1198427162[/DATE] at [TIME]1198427162[/TIME] --------------- ick never mind.. wrong way.. that wont bring up new posts anyway.. Better to do a highlighted type search. haha sorry |
