vBulletin.org style addon? Please read!

Hi,

I've been looking for an addon or series of addons which will do the following:

1. Customised post new topic form

a) I want to force users to have to select criteria under which they post articles in a specific forum. For example, users who want to post a new topic in the 'Articles' forum must fill out the following criteria:

Subject (drop down box)
Course code (text input as there are too many different codes to put in a drop down box)
Title of article (text input)
Year (drop down box)

In the case of an article about called 'Pythagoras' Theorem' from the trig2500 course published in 2005, the thread title would come up as follows:

[MATHS] [TRIG2500] Pythagoras' Theorem (2005)

Additionally, when posting the thread, they would also be forced to upload an attachment (which would be a doc, pdf, etc. file containing the article).

The standard reply box could be used to give comments on the article or to post a preview of the article.

This aims to work in a similar fashion to vBulletin.org.

2. Filtering Options in the Forum Display

In a similar manner to vBulletin.org, I want users to be allowed to filter the threads listed on the forumdisplay.

For example, they would get the following at the top of the forumdisplay:

[Subject (drop down)] [Course Code (text input)] [Year (drop down)] [Keywords (text input)]

Clicking submit would return their results. It would be a bonus if they could do a search through the filtered results, but it's not really necessary.

If someone could help point me to an addon or series of addons which can facilitate this, I will be extremely grateful! Thank you!

For Question #1, the Form Hack might do what you want. I use it for a recipe section on my site. You can see it in action here. It is highly customizable, and will probably do what you are discussing.

In conjunction with the Form Hack, I also use the Edit New Thread Button MOD. With this MOD, you can change, on a per forum basis, where the "New Thread" button goes to. For instance, if you click the "New Thread" button in one of my recipe forums, you will be taken to the submission form instead of the "Post New Thread" page. The "Reply" button in the threads still works like normal.

As for your second request, I have seen a MOD (I think) for what you are talking about. But, I have no idea where it is.

Hi rpainter! Thanks for your reply.

I've been doing a lot of research into achieving forum / post based article repository (without resorting to independent download scripts).

I came across this: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=108888 which may help solve the thread title problem by adding additional fields under the titles.

It also seems to allow users to search according to the additional fields.

I think I could use it alongside the prefix hack. Unfortunately the prefix hack only allows users to set one prefix and filter threads according to prefix. It would be ideal if it could support multiple prefixes and even custom prefixes.

The Form Hack you recommended looks quite interesting. I wonder if I could somehow modify it to work with the threadtitle addon.
