What hook location is your plugin using?

Both the hook evaluation and template evaluation have to be in the same scope. If either one is in a function, it's not going to work.

If you do this, it'll work:

Plugin code:

$GLOBALS['somevar'] = 'Hey';

In the template:

Here's my variable: $GLOBALS[somevar]
