Connect Forums
Looking to see if there is a way to share Forums? I and 5 other people run VB and our sites are very different and would like to share forums between us.
For example I have Board_1 and Board_2 at my site and would like these post to be posted on the 5 other sites were people can reply to those message from my board. And the same from the other systems as there are certain boards they would like to use also. This would stop alot of people logging in and out of these 6 places. Many Many Years ago... I use to run a BBS were we had messages boards that were shared on any site that they wanted to use on their system. We use to make privitate boards were only certain places can use and post new and or reply to messages that were shared. I tried to look though this site to find something like this but unable to find but maybe there is something that can do this? Thanks Larry |

Hi Larry,
Did you ever have any luck in finding a solution for this? This is exactly what I'm looking for at the moment. Thx Matt |

I doubt Larry will respond as this thread is over a year old.
what he is asking for is not really possible with standard vBulletin, and i doubt it would be easy (if possible at all)to create a modification for this. |

Hi Marco,
Thanks for replying. I didn't think the original poster would respond, but thought it was worth a shot. Especially since some time had passed - I was of the thinking that if he did respond then there's a fair chance he might have got somewhere with this. I have been reading a couple of other threads (the best one here) which seems to go above and beyond what I need and so my hope is alive to get close to this. Either networking the forums themselves or connecting them similar to the nntp newsgroup gateway hack. fingers crossed |

What they are describing is all based on a single user database, this would be needed to even think about sharing threads among boards (each board would need to have the same users, with the same userid and same permissions - thinks staff/moderators and such).
This is not something that can be easily realised with the current vBulletin code. |

Yep and I don't really need the user db to be shared.
I was more thinking along the lines of the nntp hack where threads and replies are sourced and importet from usenet. Although those users (from the usenet posts) don't have a profile. There name shows similar to how a guest would appear - yet thread replies are still imported accurately. Someone had told me that because of vb's built in rss/xml stuff there are other solutions for achieving this. I'll see - a few feelers out there - but I know it isn't gonna be easy and may never happen - it was nice to find that the thread poster that I linked to had achieved something close though. Thanks for your thoughts |
