Currently Active users per Category on Forum Home

I was wondering if it was possible to show the number of users browsing a certain category of the forum home page.

I know it's possible to show the users browsing a certain forum and it's sub-forums on the forumdisplay.php pages, but is it possible to also put this information one level higher, on the index.php page?
