Effect of moving away from third party addon's to new VB functionality?
Not yet a VB owner, thinking it over...
I'm confused about something. If I use some third party modules (not code hacks) to get up features that VB out of the box does not offer, what happens when VB eventually offers the same type of thing. Would I be able to convert over without losing the content that was created? I know it's dependent upon a lot of things, but I really need to get a handle on this. The one main issue I'm thinking about is that darned blog system that is never seeming to come out at VB. My project in mind requires a blogging system. I see that portals and modules (if that's what they call them in VB) offer blogs. But what happens if I set blog up with a third party system and then in six months VB announces that they have integrated blogs. I'd much rather have a built in system than a thrid-party system, so I'd want to switch over. But, would I lose all my current blogs? Or are these systems merely creating their own ways of looking threads and posts to achieve blogs, which would then allow me to still somehow "transfer" those to VB's new integrated system? I'm interested in the answer to this topic in general, as it could apply to all sorts of addon's like reviews and such, and the answer to the blogging one specifically. Thanks for your help. |

vBulleitn is already beta testing their blog application - if you can wait a few more months you have nothing to worry about
regarding the transfer of data from a 3rd-party addon .. vBulletin will create importers for the most requested systems out there .. they are currently creating a list (you will need to place your request at vbulletin.com) |
