That's more what I had in mind Mr. Failure.

Either a box accross the bottom, or a separate left column with a link box and then possibly other navigation in the column above or below it.

The sample that I like the best is simply this website. How there are two separate columns. There is the body of the page on the right, and there are several element boxes to the left, which can include links as well as add other functionality to the site. How did they create this?
