Importing db from vbb 3.0.1 to vbb 3.6.7 error

A friend of mine asked me to upgrade his old forum( vbb 3.0.1) to vbb 3.6.7.

At first, I made a backup of the forum database and the vbb 3.0.1 source on his host. Then I upload the vbb 3.6.7 source to his host(overwrite all the old source). I edited the config.php file and then run the upgrade.php. But I got many sql error while upgrading ( duplicate tables, keys exist, tables don't exist....) I tried to edit the database but it still didn't upgrade.

Is there any solution for this problem???

Second: Because I can't upgrade, I decide to install a new vbb 3.6.7 forum, then import the old database into new db of vbb 3.6.7 forum. But I still got errors.

Then I just export the table user and import it into the new forum. It works ^^.
Now I want to tranfer the sub forum( or category, i'm not sure how to call them) and the threads of the old forum to the new one.But I don't know which table do I have to export from the old db and import to the new one.
Any advice for my probs??? Thanks a lot
