need a little help

Hello to you all. I'm very new to this site and the whole forum. So please me easy and patient with me lol.

One question that's very important to me.

I have a category or a root forum on my main forum page but I also have sub categories in that category. The problem is, those sub categories show up on my main forum page under the root category and I don't want them to be there cause there are so many of them that they make my forum look way to big. The rest forums and sub forums are good I only need that one not to show subs under it.

How can I do that? Please help me out. A step by step would be greatly appreciated.

Its really important and I need to do it by tonight cause my members will get angry with me
