Have a look at the links in my signature for one way to do it.
It just uses the vB login to log you into forums and the rest of your website.
One advantage of this way is that it lets you use usergroup rights elsewhere in your site.


Also, I would suggest checking out vB CMPS.
It may be quite handy for what you have in mind.
