Well we used to have a custom userfield that contained "xfire screenames."

My co-admin said he deleted everything, and it's gone from the profile page.

But when I try to update my profile it says

"Fatal error: Field xfire is not defined in $validfields in class vb_datamanager_user in /includes/class_dm.php on line 485"

disable the plugin system and see if that helps

Still same problem. I just disabled it via the ADMIN CP menu. ;-(
