I require users to activate their emails prior to registration. The problem is, as you know, hotmail and yahoo users get these emails in their junk mail folders. Despite my many warnings about the junk/bulk mail folders, a multitude of these users still do not activate their emails.
So a logical next step would be to email all those users waiting to activate and remind them to do so? But an email from the admincp would also end up in the junk mail folder. Another option might be to moderate new members, but that would not necessarily distinguish between real and spurious emails (except those that are 290340394@hotmail.com, for instance). The -f parameter is enabled in my forums, and I tried doing SMTP instead of the PHP form stuff but that too failed. Any ideas? I am missing out on a LOT of members, but at the same time if I do not force email activation my forum gets overloaded with trolls. I am trying to email from a separate mailing list to see if that goes to junk or not, so I will let you know... Anyway, this is a major problem and I would VERY much appreciate any help whatsoever. Thank you. |

if you require activation then you should show message for those users. Say they sign up but they are a member of the Users Awaiting Email Confirmation
which is usergroup 3. Basically put something in your templates, maybe in the header a banner for that usergroup only. Tell them they need to activate their damn email first and to check the check or bulk folder. this may help https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...ight=usergroup |

is there anyway to prevent these members from getting on the site by showing them a big error message saying until you activate your account through email you can not access this forum???
