Moderating new users
Due to some troll activity, I want to be able to moderate (I guess the correct term is approve or confirm) new users who register on my forum, before they're allowed to post.
So I went to the control panel and changed Moderate New Members to "Yes." Now, when someone new signs up, what happens? And what do I need to do? Will they be receiving some kind of notification about this? Where would I find it, if I wanted to review it or make any changes? This doesn't mean I'll be moderating ALL posts before they appear, does it? (That's not what I want to do). Thanks for your help. BTW, I have 3.5.4. |

If you have the moderate new members checked in your admin Cp it will send you a email showing you have a new member. Inside that email will be a link to the new members profile and you will be able to review it. On my board I have the admin stats at the top of the Admin CP and at the top right it has "Users to Moderate" then you click on that to approve. I wish you could approve them strait thru the email like other forums but it won't let me with vBulletin. Only bad thing i've experenced with this is that when a new member joins it sometime takes 12-24 hours for me to get the email that a new member has joined. By the time you get around to approving them they are no longer interested. Not sure if that can be changed in settings but I didn't like it so I turned it off.

Thanks -- I seem to be getting emails of new members fairly quickly, so that doesn't worry me too much. My only concern is that I won't get around to verifying them fast enough. But I think it's worth a try to see how it works.
Again, thanks. |
