php ajax and ircg
Unless I'm missing something this very logical and powerful combination has not yet been done. It would give you a php real time chat that could be easily intergrated and embedded in vBulletin that actually connects to an irc server like mIRC does.

Okay, I guess this needs more explaination
Actually, looking into it further I see that Net_SmartIRC (part of Pear) is probably a better solution. With this (or with ircg) and ajax, I can write a chat client that is as fully integrated into vBulletin as a shoutbox. I can add hooks and make it completely exposed and extensible to coders, and it would be useable with any IRC chat server, just like mIRC. It would have the same server load problems as the ajax shoutbox, but I don't think that's a big issue, since it hasn't stopped 1000+ people from installing the shoutbox (and that's just people who actually clicked install). |
