Hi peeps

I am on a semi dedicated VDS server atm, Very simple to use although the control panel is a bit plain jane lol

What i would like to know is what difference would there but on a fully dedicated server?
I will be getting a Linux server
Are they easy to use?
What knowledge do i need to run 1
I take it i owuld be better off with a managed server?

Any advice would be appreciated

Can anyone advise on any thing with regards to this please?
What should i look for if i go for a fully dedicated server please?
i.e. software, hardware... or can anyone reccomend a semi dedicated server
that have no issues with vbshout lol

You would be better off with a managed server, bashy!

Good luck!

You would go with a server with cPanel or DirectAdmin control panel (it will install apache/php/mysql/exim .... for you). If your forum is not too big, a P4 or Athlon 64 will be fine.

Fastservermanagement provides cheap management services. We recommend the management services from fastservermanagement.com, acunettmanagement.com, or rack911.com

Good luck!

Cheers for your help Dan....I am stilly very much indecisive....
I feel its going to be well over my head....I dont really want to fork out X amount of pounds only to realise i cant work it

I really dont know what do now...Its a shame there arnt any plans on the net where i can test and play with a server to see whats what lol....

Will there be much difference from a semi to a full (managed) i mean work wise, What will i have to do if anything?

What software should i choose i am using linux atm but in the dropdown lists i see no end of different names such as freebsd and fedora, they mean nothing to me.....

Perhaps i should stick with a semi lol

Kind Regards,

hi people,

WHy are nearly all dedicated hosts have so "less" memory on there "payable" accounts.I mean all accounts between $99 - $150 you're gonna have to search hard for a host that allows at least 1024 mb memory and that's the bare minimum to run a decent webserver.I've considerd ev1servers.net but changed my mind after reading there rediculious "tos and aup"If your creditcard is declined for whatever reason they charge $1 extra. If you forgot to pay they charge $7.95 "to late" fee never seen any bullshit like that. Also most of the dedicated hosts have tons of stuff i don't need like managment i don't need it i work with linux systems for years i can do all of that myself however i do like having a "payed" support option where you can ask the host for help (payed)
