phpBB has a Fu@#$@ template system, can't get no good.
Who programmed it anyway? The .css style is in 4 files - why - it such a mess, hate to say it - but I hate it. Yea.
Originally posted by SaintDog Many say that free boards cannot compare with those that are not open source or free based; in saying that, I honestly believe that is false.
I fully believe that some (free) boards could be developed to offer such competition, if developed correctly.
OpenBB has been said to offer competition with vBulletin, while currently it does not, it could if the correct features were implemented.
I honestly was going to use OpenBB for HiveMailSkins until I did not see a permissions system. OpenBB was just as easy to skin, just lacked the single feature that was needed.
Permissions System has become one of my #1 priorities for OBB2. In the areas of Moderation and and Usergroup. Currently the only contributing permissions system that stands is a Usergroup to Forums preference. It was the base system and has been unchanged up until now. I'm currently taking up the responsibility for the system to be up to date and complete by v1.1.3. I appreciate your input Jonathon.
P.S.
OpenBB v1.1.0 is coming within the month of February.
Will you include permission inheritance and multiple usergroups? Aside from trying to find out how structurally to save the permissions I tried it and found it conceptually easy to implement.
Not a problem Anthony, OpenBB is up there, jusy a few features are lacking to make it one of the top free boards and to offer some what of competition with the better known free boards.
Developing on the OpenBB codebase was never that hard. It was just tough finding people to donate their time. But yes, Multiple Usergroups (all was going to be based around permission inheritance) will coincide with the upcoming releases.

Sorry Anime, there was a time when our lead developer was gone for awhile. He may have not checked his email in that time. I appologize. Thank you though.
