Yeah, lots of killers get out after a decade or so, just labeled a felon, which we all know is a broad definition and certainly doesnt dictate who a person might be after their "crime". A murder though? Too many are done in cold blood and yes, I believe like sex offenders, they are hard to reform but again (cold blooded murderers), how do you distinguish the different ones.

I check my local registered sex offenders list regularly too, BTW.

Honestly dean, would you go out and drink with a convicted reformed sex offender?

If the answer to that question is no and it probably is. You shouldn't be condoning that we speak to sex offenders via the internet and the good people not knowing about it. Yeah they are reformed but their victims will never have that feeling of a normal existance again.

Convicted sex offenders should be locked up and they key thrown away. Period. They are the scum of the earth and lowest of the lowest to call them animals would be an insult to animals.

There was a sex offender in the news/papers here in the uk about two months ago who (I sure got set free) or he served something stupid like 6 months. Society took the law into their own hands and chopped his manhood off. The justice system works for sex offenders in the way they'll get 2 years (if convicted) out in 12 months to do it all again and the expense of ruining someones life.

Castrate them, that will stop them in their tracks.
I think they go WAY too easy on these perverts too. Some of these people are not even arrested. They put restraining orders out and the person goes to court. ITs all really messed up. Freaking perverts man. I agree... They should be punished like murders! Child pedophiles and rapists.

There has to be something more than a platonic relationship here. Most states have a 3 year clause when it comes to relationships with a minor. That is to say, there has to be more than a three year old age difference between the two parties. So a 19 year old can have a relationship with a 16 year old but not a 15 year old. In some states, like Tennessee, the age of consent is lower than 18 as well. Tennessee just increased the age of consent to 16 for girls a few years ago. Up from 14. Laws vary widely.

Here in California, we not only have Megan's Law but we have Jessica's Law. Jessica's Law states that a registered sex offender cannot be within 2000 yards of a school, church, park or other place where children may congregate. May not seem like a large distance but the law pretty much excludes offenders from being able to live in San Francisco as a whole. It also requires them to wear GPS anklets while on parole.

Yeah, I actually think they made it that way here some time ago. Not sure of the particulars. BUT still... LOL I actually was 15 when I met my "high school sweet heart". Still nothing that he should have been jailed over... back then, it was against the law even at 16 and 18.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I believe in seeing people for who they are at the time. People can change. Granted, most sex offenders probably won't, but I choose to judge people on the present, not the past

And MySpace chose not to.
It's their right to protect their users against sex offenders as it is vBulletin's job to protect us from hackers.

90,000 sex offenders being taken from myspace is merely a pin prick on the surface. For every one normal person on myspace, there has got to be about 40 people who are there for hooking up, and a majority of them won't let age stop them.

However, good on them.
