What I want to know is how they know, who is who?

All convicted sex offenders must register with law enforcement. This includes their name and address. These lists are available to the public so that you know who is living in your neighborhood.

It should be noted that convicted sex offender covers a wide range of offenses. Not all are rapists or pedophiles. If a 14 year old boy kisses a girl without her permission, he can be found guilty of a crime and must register as a sex offender.

I believe if i remember that the federal authority kindly (demanded) to do an site control audit of all alleged sex offender that had registered by state and local and its like wayne said since it's public.I',m pretty sure someone had to do some O.T to make sure it was completed.:eek:

How did they do this with just researching IP addresses?

On the internet it's like this: Boys are boys, girls are boys, girls are old horny men, 13 year old girls are FEDS.

Whilst I'm in no way condoning the actions or crimes committed by this men and women, it raises a moral question whether this was the right thing to do? A few of these people were probably wrongly convicted of their crime, some of them are probably reformed. Why should we continue to persecute them for their crime?

Also, one could argue that keeping these people on MySpace will give them enough social interaction with people to stop them re-offending. Lack of social interaction with other women or men may have been the reason they committed the crimes in the first place.

It's such a complex moral issue. I personally think it shouldn't be MySpace's responsibility to police this kind of thing.

Probably, Some were wrongly convicted. For those "convicted" reformed you speak of should never be allowed back into society. I would rather know who's on the sex offenders registered list than unwary speak to a sex offender i didn't know who sexually abused kids/woman/men.

Honestly dean, would you go out and drink with a convicted reformed sex offender?

If the answer to that question is no and it probably is. You shouldn't be condoning that we speak to sex offenders via the internet and the good people not knowing about it. Yeah they are reformed but their victims will never have that feeling of a normal existance again.

Convicted sex offenders should be locked up and they key thrown away. Period. They are the scum of the earth and lowest of the lowest to call them animals would be an insult to animals.

There was a sex offender in the news/papers here in the uk about two months ago who (I sure got set free) or he served something stupid like 6 months. Society took the law into their own hands and chopped his manhood off. The justice system works for sex offenders in the way they'll get 2 years (if convicted) out in 12 months to do it all again and the expense of ruining someones life.

Castrate them, that will stop them in their tracks.

I too think the law needs a little reform. It is way to broad. Like an 18 yr old being a sex offender because of a platonic relationship with a 16 yr old. For the rest of his life? Way too extreme but it is happening. That is just a shame to be lumped in the same category with REAL child pedophiles. I remember my thought process when I was 16, far from innocent and I had a 19 yr old boy friend, yet nothing was out of the norm for our relationship, regarding age proportion. Had my parents been upset, he could be a registered sex offender. :eek: It seems crazy to me that that is illegal.

Other then that, I mainly want to know how they pin point who is who in a search like that. You dont need an address to register at MySpace. Just an email. So the really BAD people will find a way back in and the ones who chose to be reformed and live better obey and are inadvertently punished. It just seems moot to me. Nice try though.

I dont like sex offenders,nobody does.
But on the other hand i also dont like the people who commited the crime in killing the person who you are reffering to in the above post.

What makes them better than the person who they have just killed ?
Have they actually made our society,a safer place for us and our children - NO - because in killing this man they have themselfs become Murderers,and if they can kill once then they can kill again.......
You may have one less pedo to contend with,but now you got a gang of murderers on the loose.

Good post Shelley, Meghan's law is great IMO, wish they had a similar program for murderers or other violent felons.

Growing up in my neighborhood, lots of us friends would hang out all the time. We eventually came to find out after probably 5 years being friends that one of our friends was a "sex offender" we were like freakin 13 y.o. if that. So we asked our friend about it, and he told us. When he was 7 or 8 i think he was at like a after-school daycare program and there were little kids there. The one little kid was 2 or something and as some toddlers do, liked to strip his clothes off. The day care ladies observed this before. The lady watching them decided to walk out of the room to go get something, the toddlers stripped his clothes off, and then she walked back in. Well he was there, with a naked toddler, the lady over-reacted like he did something wrong, and now he is on the sex offenders list for the rest of his life.

He was totally normal, cool guy, to hang out with before and after he told us, it's a shame.

we had no reason not to believe him though....
would i let him babysit my kids now.....probably not.
