W3Schools is good place to learn CSS. Their tutorials are short and they provide an area to test code out. CSS is actually not terribly difficult once you get the basic principle.

The thing with CSS, is that class names can be anything. You just make up the names. And you set certain style elements from certain classes. Since it's a custom style, and since vB4 kinda was wiggy with CSS elements, you'd kind of need to get into the Admin CP and test/tweak/repeat to get it how you wanted. CSS is easy to learn. But sometimes it takes a little jiggering on the backend to make it look how you want.
