I posted this question piggybacked on a seperate post, but wanted to give this question its own thread.
Is there a way to prohibit the viewing of a forum based on the user's age? If I have a forum that I do not want viewer's under the age of 18 to view, how can I set that up? Thanks! Steve |

Password Protected is the only solution you have. Since user(s) can change their age by going through the UserCP.

I don't know if this is much use to you.
Age Lock Hack Before Global Family Forum became Ask Family I had this issue of having 2 completely different areas - under 17's and Adults and the way I did it on GFF was to create a different usergroup for the under 17's which they were put in when they registered. I had COPPA set up so they had to give date of birth (only covers for under 13's). At the end of the day no matter what measures you put into place it all depends on the prospective members or a member being honest with you. Tinks |

Even locking the age is useless, they can just sign up using another email and username. There is no sure fire way of restricting users, display a disclaimer page of some sort before a user enters the forum. (I.E. they must state they are over 18 and accept responsibility for what they are doing) Provide both the option to continue or go back.
You can set-up different usergroups and put under-17s in one and over 18s in the other to limit the under 17s awareness of the over 18s forum existence but someone is bound to find out and tell but I guess it is a preventative measure. |
