i NEVER delete for 2 reasons

1. you cant restore the member if for any reason you have to
2. it makes ur site look better the more members you have under statistics

I didnt actually delete, It was pretty much my fault for not taking backups, We had a big event and i noticed we were missing a good 2000 users, So i asked my techie and he said iv quit i deleted them, By then we already gained about 500 users that night
