Outlook Express

Is it possible to get outlook express on my lower right icons so that ic an close it and it will still keep searching for emails every 5 minutes or whatever time period i set? Also, will it have that little pop up box thing on the bottom that tells me i have a new message?

I've always just used yahoo for email but for business reasons, i prefer outlook...
