Hyperlink setting

I have recently come across a problem on my forum with hyperlinks, intead of them showing like this they are instead showing like this (without the asteriks)

[*URL="http://www.vbulletin.org"]this[*/URL]

Now I am pretty sure it is a setting that has changed but I can't find the problem for looking.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
