(WCCO) Minneapolis A Minnesota woman gave birth to sextuplets late Sunday night at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
The babies, four boys and two girls, were born to Ryan and Brianna Morrison of St. Louis Park, Minn. The babies are all in critical condition at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. Brianna Morrison is in good condition at Abbott. The babies were born by Cesarean section between 11:23 and 11:25 p.m. Sunday. They weigh between nearly 11 ounces to 1 pound, 3 ounces. The names of the babies are: Lucia Rae, Cadence Alana, Bennet Ryan, Tryg Brenton, Lincoln Sean and Sylas Christopher. "The babies arrived sooner than we'd hoped for, but we are optimistic," the father, Ryan Morrison, said. "Brianna is doing well. Thanks to all who are praying for our family. We are very happy to be parents." Brianna Morrison was at the end of her 22nd week of pregnancy when the babies were delivered. The Morrisons were hoping she could make it to 30 weeks gestation. Brianna Morrison has been on bed rest at Abbott for just over a month. When she moved into Abbott, her husband moved in with her. He's been sleeping on a blue air mattress. The Morrisons have been married for two years. After trying for about a year to get pregnant, Brianna Morrison went on fertility drugs. "I thought I was growing fast for only being six weeks along, but I had never had kids before," Brianna Morrison said in an interview with WCCO-TV about a month ago. At their first ultrasound, they found out Brianna Morrison was carrying six babies. Couples in their situation have the option of what's called selective reduction, where doctors reduce the number of fetuses to give the others better odds. For the Morrisons, that wasn't an option. "For us, there's no difference between a fetus that's undeveloped and a baby," said Ryan Morrison. "Because it's life and God gives life and it's not up to us to decide to take it away," added Brianna Morrison. It's not the way the eager parents would have planned things but it's exactly how they believe it was meant to happen. They view their situation, not as an accident, nor a mistake. They see it as a miracle. Now that the sextuplets have been born there has been a non-profit fund set up to support them. Checks can be written out to Morrison Multiples Corporation and sent to: Morrison Multiples Corporation c/o Fortune Financial 10261 Yellow Circle Drive Minneapolis, MN 55343 This 501c3 status is in process and is expected that all donations will be tax deductible. |
