Integration with vBulletin - Facebook Connect - Allow your users to login with their Facebook account (for 3.8)

Facebook Connect
This add-on allows your guests and existing users to login with their Facebook account through Facebook Connect.

There is NO NEED to upgrade or reinstall if you already installed this mod for 3.7

Upgrade to 2.0.6 so that users with the new super long IDs will be able to login.


This mod conflicts with PhotoPost vBGallery!
Quick fix:
Disable the following PhotoPost vBGallery plugins:

• Userinfo Merge
• Integrate Postbit Showthread

Benefits of Facebook Connect

• Users can simply login with their Facebook account without going through the registration process.
• Increase user interaction and your traffic through Facebook notifications and news-feeds!

Features
Facebook users will be able to receive Facebook notifications when:

• There is a reply to their thread or a thread that they're subscribing to
• They receive a new PM

News-Feed will be published on to the user's wall when the user:

• Logs in for the first time
• Replies to a thread
• Creates a new thread

Fetch user data from Facebook
Fetch data like name, location, profile picture and use it on your forums! (NOTE: Some data may not be available for some users)

Automatically befriend user's friends
If any of the user's friends are also registered on the forum, they will automatically be friends!

Troubleshooting
Server Requirements:
PHP 5

If you get an error:

The Facebook Connect cross-domain receiver URL http://www.SITEURL.com/xd_receiver.h...%220.699%22%7D must have the application's callback URL http://www.SITEURL.com/forums/ as a prefix. You can configure the callback URL in the application's settings.

Means that there is something wrong with your callback URL. Your callback URL must be where xd_receiver.htm is; so when you enter [callbackurl]/xd_receiver.htm into your browser you should see a blank page (not a 404 page not found error or anything else).

If you get a continues this means there is a javascript error. Make sure you've done all the template edits correctly (especially footer & navbar). Clear your cache and reload the page.

If nothing happens when you click the Facebook Connect button make sure your callback url domain is the same as you forum domain (the one set in your forum settings) - more specifically make sure that there is a www (or isn't) in both domains.


Many more features may be implemented in the future so keep checking for updates.

I'd say you're wrong. The mod is supported how the dev chooses to do so.

And I'd say you're an arrogant fool who has yet to learn the meaning of support of modification by the coder. When a Coder (in this case sllik) decides to post a modification and clicks on the little check box that says "I will support this mod" and then never logs in to actually support his mod:

That by definition and fact is "not supported."

Just because you arrogantly can "think" you can half-heartedly support this mod on behalf of the actual coder does not make this mod supported, specially when my (and a few others here) questions have never been answer yet they have been diverted. But again, I thank you for taking your time out just to ridicule and belittle me just because you "think" you have supported this modification in which is not even written by yourself.

2 weeks = a month? Really? Where?? Yeah, it's actually just OVER 2 weeks (by a day and some change). The last offline stint (before Jun 26) was for probably 2 months, so 2 weeks is nothing.

Developer Last Online: Jun 2009... this month is July if you hadn't noticed.

Oh, the MOD will install just fine, but you have to actually follow instructions. Like I said, I've done this on so many servers now, I could do it in my sleep, from template install to the app setup and link. IF there's a problem, it's not with the app, but with your configuration, and whining about the developer not being online isn't going to solve THAT, now is it?

Again your ridiculing is completely unnecessary. If you knew as much about servers as you pretended to then you would realize that different servers are setup different ways. As I've stated to you before, just because it works for you doesn't automatically make it work for the rest of the world. Is the addon supported? By me, and a few others, absolutely.

All addons/modifications are supported that way. Stop trying to back-peddle. When a coder posts a modification he has the option to support this mod or not. He decided to check the "support" option. I'm not going to say that there isn't a problem between your server and the mod, but that's not the, mod's problem, nor, frankly is it something the dev is responsible for fixing. You are responsible for your own server. I WILL say though, without hesitation, that this mod works on a php5/mysql5 server. Can't say for mysql4, because I don't know that I've installed it there, BUT I can say that it DOES install very well under the circumstances you're complaining about it not installing on. You just have to READ the instructions and follow them.

Again, belittling me will get you nowhere. I (unlike yourself), do know how to read. I was simply asking the coder of this modification (not you), if he had any ideas as to why I would receive database errors from this modification on my server using PHP5. But again, I thank you for yet again wasting my time. I would appreciate it if you would just ignore my posts from now on as you obviously cannot comprehend what I am asking and you have a serious attitude problem.

I don't know if this matters or not, but over a week ago I sent an email to the developer using both email addresses included in the ReadMe file included with this mod. As of yet, I have not received a response at all. I figured what the heck I might as well paste that email here to see if any/all of it can be answered so here goes:

1) I also run vbgallery and I saw that your mod conflicts with it. If I install your mod, what funcionality do I lose with vbgallery?

2) I have one master (parent) style on my site but with 6 or 7 child styles, if I have you install it on my site, will you charge me once to install it to the parent style (which should cascade to the child styles automatically) or will you charge me to install to each style?

3) How soon can you perform the install if I send over the PayPal payment (asuming the answers to #1 and #2 are to my liking) ?"

Lets be honest here, these thread become useless to offer support after a point. While its a couple of pages long people might read the threads but soon its too many pages and most users are either too lazy or too arrogant in the belief their time is more important than the developers so rather than reading the thread they ask questions that have already been answered.

I check the thread every couple of weeks myself but I rarely read all the posts that have been posted between logins as there is too many and they are often repeats

You assume I do not know what I am doing or how to code. You might want to check again and see that not only have I been registered since 2002 but I have released a few mods of my own. Lately I've just been extremely busy to contribute on my own.

The developer of this mod has not fixed any of the problems that many of us have had. The developer of this mod has not logged in for over a month. That means this mod is no longer supported and as such should not be marked that it is. And again, this mod will not install correctly on my server running a full version of the latest VB with PHP5.. therefore there is a problem. Different servers act different ways. Just because it works on yours does not mean it will work on ours.

Its your server thats at fault not the modification. The developer can't be expected to troubleshoot every server issue you are having because you have some strange server setup. I mean if you can't sort your server settings out to get it to work why should he be spending time trying to configure your server especially when he isn't being paid to do so. Its either your or your server admins responsibility.

Sounds like a server setup issue. If you can supply some more info on your hosting package (OS type, Webserver type ect ect) someone here may be able to point you in the right direction

I understand that and fully agree with you. I was only asking for some input as to why after I provided the error that I provided. It wasn't my intention of this turning into a meaningless pissing match with someone who has a God complex (not you.) And I apologize for this thread getting out of hand although I just didn't appreciate being attacked for posting that this modification has problems, which it does.

The developer never mentioned MySQL 4 or 5, only PHP5 (which I have installed on my server.) And there was no response from the developer when I asked.

As a side note I've corrected the problem myself. For anyone else interested, this modification will not work with MySQL4. So if you've had a database for years like I have, it's time to upgrade.

For now I will do without this.

I have your facebook connect plugin installed on my board. My main forum URL is a subdomain http://forums.xxxx.com , which is where I originally installed it. I created a vbadvanced page on my homepage,. xxxx.com . I have a facebook connect button also located there, and it used to always work.. and then all of a sudden it stopped working properly. When I click the facebook connect button from the vbadvanced page it no longer works, and I have to go to the forum root (forums.xxxx.com) for facebook connect to actually work.

Please let me know if you can help me fix this.. it's becoming such a pain.. On my facebook API settings I have the base url set to xxxx.com, so I thought it would work.
