Is there such a thing as brand loyalty? Is that such a stupid idea to even have such a thought? If so, I'm guilty.
First of all I should be totally honest, yes I recognize there are other cms's that may look a little prettier or have widgets/styles that I wish were available for vbulletin. But, it can also be said that works the other way around thanks to the vb community's member developers/stylists and admin/moderators. I first obtained my vb product/license in 2008. Only recently have I gained interest in styling and a little dabble in coding. Although I feel good about the styling (at a rookie level of course) I'm just starting to even consider learning vb's basic coding structure. I would love to see more action on the part of vb's community in promoting it. (vb) That's my 2 cents for the day ![]() |

I think brand loyalty comes from exceptional customer service / friendliness / timeliness, etc. Yes, the product needs to be good - but what really gets people to stay loyal is the human experience.
I think it's incredible over here at vB.org, but I really can't say the same on the .com forums. That's why I spend most of my time over here now ![]() |

I strongly believe this sites strongest suit is it's Admins / Dev's and a large number of members that seem to go the extra mile in helping those in need. |

Depends on the person I guess. For me there is no such thing as brand loyalty. I simply chose what's best for me unless the price is really out of my range. As for the learning vBulletin I would be careful as imho the future of this software seems sadly uncertain for today. Personally I tied my largest online project with it and I put 4+ years in learning it and customizing it so there is no coming back for me. However, if I was starting to build my project today I would really carefully consider other options.
EDIT: But if you asked me what is the best forum software you can get today I would say with no doubts that it's still good old vbulletin 3 series. As for the vbulletin 4 series I see lots of improvement since it's beginnings in stability and performance but for me it still lacks too much even if there are some cool new additions builtin like activity stream. As for vbulletin 5 ...I've never used it. From quick look at the demo/screenshots I think it's a completely different story. |

I'm pretty loyal to the vBulletin brand. I own a vb3 to vb5 license. I really really like vBulletin, however when I run a 2nd or 3rd project at a time, usually I use phpBB because I can't afford another vBulletin license. Given the option, I would definitively choose vBulletin though.

As I am more of a hobbyist at using vb, I do build and maintain other sites for family, friends, two churches, and a bait shop.
As I am disabled military and do not have the luxury of splurging on an additional vb license I'll use WP or in most cases just static html. Tonight I've been working on an update to a style I recently added in the style section. I have decided that if and when my styles advance to the level of acceptance from some of those here that I highly respect, I may venture into actually charging a small fee for. I may never get to that level but fail or succeed it'll be with vbulletin !! Love this product!! |
