If it was encrypted it probably wouldn't be as popular. When it comes to creating community sites, flexibility is the key. Everyone wants to be unique so thus the reason for modifications that combine vBulletin with other softwares (eg wordpress) or vb specific addons. So I think I can agree with you on that point.
