making a hack for it would be basically useless in my opinon. It would require a ton of time, for something that can be done in a matter of seconds by simply copying the pic into the smilies area.

There is a set limit in your control panel to display how many smilies you want to show on the newthread/newreply/etc.. page for smilies as well. Ours at one time only showed 6 up front, but 180 in the pop up. Some of them were yes....icons....but, when you add the icons into the smilies for everybodys use, it kind of defeats having the icons in there to begin with, because the icons do have somewhat of a meaning to the thread. Basically, you can get a good indication of what the thread contains, just by looking at the icon. If the icons are overused, than there really is no sense in having icons.
