I've gone with a RSS feed to just show new threads.. looks clean enough and doesn't require any bridging (due to the nature of our site, this would be highly unneccessary)

You could always lean towards having a Wordpress or Joomla site and integrating it with vB (I plan to do a partial integration later this year with Joomla). Of course, this adds a lot of extra work...
