Increasing font sizes in vB 4.0

Why vBulletin chose to reduce the font sizes of vB 4.0 is beyond me. Users have been complaining since day 1 that vB 4.0 is nowhere near as readable as earlier versions. I have hit a brick wall...

How do I ALWAYS show Newest Member in Navbar?

So far I have been able to insert it in the navbar, but it only shows on forum home. If I navigate away from forum home, the user name disappears.

Search came up with nothing....

How would I add small images next to the navbar links? I know it's probably something simple, but at the moment it is escaping me.
