2) Copy all your vbulletin files to another directory

Just make the thumbnail size something like 500 x...

Just make the thumbnail size something like 500 x 800 - if its smaller it will show up smaller - if its bigger - well - you probably dont want it bigger anyway and they can still click on it to see...

Interest Level Check & Need experienced vBulletin hacker if there is interest

I have been thinking about throwing together a registration/post filter system for awhile that could easily stop human and bot spammers in their tracks.
