I would post on vBT, but I hardly get any answers there

vBt is strictly the site for template questions so even if it takes a while to reply this is not the place for these kind of questions buddy :) Nevertheless.... if you want to make that the background of your categories for example just copy the example on a default vB3 and delete the gradient image and upload your gray.gif renaming it to the one vB3 uses :)

In conclusion you just need to play in the CSS editor. There's a more comprehensive tutorial in the vB manual :)

I'm using vB2

If you're using vB2 then put this as your category background color:

Make sure you upload the grey.gif to your imagesfolder and change #somehex to a color which is close to grey (e.g. #CCCCCC) :)
