Smilies

Hello Guys! :)

Could you please help me fix an issue on my forums? I'm very new in the whole vBulletin thing, just migrated from SMF.

Is there any way to avoid this : ":popcorn" or ":Dodge" ?

What I used to do was add colon : both front and back of the word.

e.g.

 or :dodge: ..etc...

hm, most of my smileys are that way. :X:
Are smilies case insensitive by default and that's why : plane turns into :plane ?

No, it is changing plane to :plane because there is no colon required after the p

They aren't case insensitive, but that one uses a lower case p. I think they don't have colons at the end because they match classic emoticons. It is annoying, but when I see it happen I edit my post and check the "disable smilies in text" box. And if you really want smilies in the post but want to avoid one word from converting, you can use the noparse tags, like :p. Yeah, it's a PITA but it works.

ETA: Oh, after Lynne posted below I see now, you meant that it's other smilies starting with : p that is the issue.

If I recall correctly, if you make sure that the 'order' of you smilies is such that : p is listed first and then later on : popcorn is listed (the order is set in Smilie Manager > View), then your : popcorn will parse correctly as the popcorn image and not :popcorn . (That is what I did on my site and it works just fine.)
