[latex][/latex] bbcode
Description
Rip-off of http://www.vbulletin-germany.com/for...ad.php?t=17052 This bbcode creates images using LaTeX math expressions. Installation - Go to http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.html - Download mimetex, compile it and throw it into your cgi-bin folder, or try one of the pre-compiled versions. The Linux one didn't work for me, good luck. - Test it out with www.yourforum.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} - Add the bbcode Title: Latex Tag: latex Replacement: <img src="http://www.yourforum.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?{param}" /> Example: [latex]x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}[/latex] Description: Generates images with LaTeX math expressions. Use {option}: no I tried using the mimetex from his site and it banned me. <img src="http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?{param}" /> http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/cgi...{b^2-4ac}}{2a} |
Dear friend,
i downloaded " mimetex.zip " but there is no file named " mimetex.cgi " ??????? what shall i do ?? thx |
you have to follow the installation steps on that page to create the "mimetex.cgi" file
|
This is nice. :)
anyway, you need to have permission to compile cc, in order to create the .cgi file :) i tried using his site: http://www.forkosh.dreamhost.com/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} its working fine. |
his site has an anti-leech system though
|
I must not be as smart as all of you, because I have no clue what this is for??
|
it for showing advanced math formulas with a bbcode
|
newb here =)
I got the mimetex.cgi working, I'm just not sure where to add the bbcode. thanks |
I was using this on my forum before I upgraded to 3.5. I created a folder called mimetex, then unzipped the file. I then compiled the file useing the command line cc -DAA mimetex.c gifsave.c -lm -o mimetex.cgi
that creates the mimetex.cgi file which I put in my cgi-bin folder. I try to execute the file with http://www.actuary.ca/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?x=\frac{-b\pm\sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a} and only get an internal server error. Am I missing something??? |
Whoops, ignorance strikes again!!!!!!!!!!!
I started to think about this one for a second, and then I realized . . . The quick directions would be a lot quicker if it had "change the chmod of mimetex.cgi to executable" which only makes sence cause people have to execute it in order for it to work . . . . duh. |
Okay, so now my problem is when I use the [tex][/tex] tag in a thread it just shows the text. How do I make this text so it shows the image that does now work and should be used?
Thanks in advance, CH |
If this could be made so that the functions are more close to the normal writion of functions in plain text (eg using only parentheses) it would be soooo great!
Even as is I consider installing! The users in my math subforum will loooove this! [high]* Lea Verou is clicking install to be able to find it easily and maybe actually install afterwards :)[/high] |

holy shit. this is exactly what my forum needs as it is for math students at my university. thank you for bringing this to my attention.
|
wtf, i compiled it myself, put it in my cgi bin, and chmod it to 777, and it still gives out internal server error:

i compiled it and installed it fine, this is a really great plugin, but i have the following problem, and i am pretty sure that it is within vbulletin:
ok, it seems like every time i use a parenthesees before an equal sign, the img tag gets truncated and the image that renders fine, upon reload does not appear to be present... example: Code:
\int_{a}^bf(x)dt=\sum_{i=1}^n f(\overline{x_i})\Delta x Code:
\sum_{i=1}^n f(\overline{x_i})\Delta x=\int_{a}^bf(x)dt infact after playing with it Code:
x=f\left(x\right)=\int_{-\infty}^xe^{-t^2}dt nailed it down to this in the html code, and its really weird... when the image errors out, the image tag reads: Code:
<img src="http://ourdomain/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi)dt=\sum_{i=1}^n f(\overline{x_i})\Delta x" /> the same code, but where the 2 sides of the equality are swapped, and hence it runs, like i said, like its supposed to (the equations are those of the above code samples) reads: Code:
<img src="http://ourdomain/cgi-bin/mimetex.cgi?\sum_{i=1}^n f(\overline{x_i})\Delta x=\int_{a}^bf(x)dt" /> P.S. site is running vbulletin 3.5.3 |
Works fine with vBulletin 3.6.7 PL1

Hi We recently bought the license for vbulletin and we wanted to integrate LATEX following the steps as per this link:
http://pi.bloo.us:800/academic/latex.../#Installation but after doing all the steps the Editor Menu showed up with the Maths Icons with Sigma .. But after selecting the Symbol even if we press the Preview or submit the symbols are not visible... Any other thing we need to do? Please help You can see our Forum in the following Link: http://www.etuitions.org/forums/foru...daysprune=&f=5 |
We got our License... and we have installed vbulletin in the server...
To integrate the Maths tool set as per below ... We followed the steps in the following link http://pi.bloo.us:800/academic/latex.../#Installation After this.. We got the Sigma Icon in the Post / Thread Editor Menu and we could able to select the symbols... but it comes in as a kind of Code... something like this: [tex]\stackrel{}{\rightarrow}[/tex] [tex]\sqrt[]{}[/tex] but even if we preview it or post it ... above continues to be shown as it is ... but not the Symbols as expected... Please clarify ... should we install the LATEX software in the server? which is around 600 MBs?? Is there anything else we should do? . Please help Thanks and Regards, |
it works with me ,
but I need to know how to add an icon in the toolbox , in order to enable the members to input the data rather than doing the tags manully . Thanks |
