CSS vs. Photoshop

So, I'm making a web-site for myself. The upper text and gradient is made in Photoshop, the lower one is made with the blur effet and is a text. It's Cyrillic (Windows) page. What do you think about - do they look at least similiar.
The next problem. How to make the same mouseover effect on the text, as it is in the upper part, made with Photoshop? ;)

The demo link

Why blur it? It gives me a headache; I think you mean you want it antialiased, in which case you'd have to do it graphically because there's no surefire way of getting it right with CSS.

Cypher720 01-23-2003 05:50 PM

y eah...i dont really like the blur eithr.....headache material

Orfejs 01-24-2003 07:35 PM

Why headache - it looks allmost the same, or not ... because not always gif with antialiasing is the best solution, sometimes you need dynamic text and than it's time for CSS?!

Cypher720 01-24-2003 07:43 PM

yes...CSS is great - but why did you blur it?

Orfejs 01-25-2003 03:35 PM

To get the effect. Do you do not like it? It looks just perfect for me. You know.

filburt1 01-25-2003 06:21 PM

Just let the OS do the antialiasing, or make it an image. Blurring something with CSS is not only not supported in most browsers but (no offense) hideous.

Internet Explorer 5.x and up is the most used browser, so there is no problem with that. What do you use? Opera, Mozilla?

I've always used IE, it's the best and most user friendly, it's sad, that under UNIX we have only Netscape (which is the second best). All the others are just for girls.

filburt1 01-26-2003 02:23 PM

That's very arrogant. Safari is probably the most popular browser for OS X now, and Mozilla is the most popular for non-Windows platforms.

Orfejs 01-27-2003 07:54 AM

Ok, tell me please something about that Saferi, never heard of that.
And shy Mozilla? Only a maximum of 10% users use it and - it's really no good, or?! All the CSS is missreproduced and not only that.

filburt1 01-27-2003 10:37 AM

You're obviously not very informed (somewhat no offense).

Safari: http://www.apple.com/safari/
Mozilla: http://www.mozilla.org/

I've found that they usually do an excellent job with CSS. The only thing I've seen both mess up is on my site the category bars (the padding is missing).

Mozilla = Evil!

That is all. :p

filburt1 01-27-2003 01:45 PM

Mozilla on Windows = evil, on other platforms there's no other good choice. Safari's nice but it has far too few preferences.

Rufus69 01-27-2003 02:09 PM

I use IE..but sometime I must use IE 4 (yeah I know it's on my old win 95....) and since I have like a 3k modem on it I can't upgrade :'(

Just for girls? i know a few 30 year old men that would jump all over you for saying that :p. IE may be the most used broswer, but that in no way means you sould not have a site that will only work with IE. If someone cant even view your site in netscape/mozilla/opera/ etc odd's are they wont go check it in IE.

And i hate to brust your bubble but microsoft is droping IE for MSN explorer soon. IE 6 is the last release of Internet Explorer.

Tony G 01-28-2003 12:00 AM

*Shudder* MSN Explorer.

Rufus69 01-28-2003 12:45 AM

ROFL!

yeah Opera is coo!

I wish I had it still :'(

Orfejs 01-28-2003 05:42 AM

I hate MSN too. But when I installed Opera. Oh, it's a waste of time. Mozilla is much better. But several CSS sings are misspelled. What can I say - IE6.0 final is the best. I think.

Tony G 01-28-2003 10:01 AM

Mozilla better then Opera?

*cough*

Mozilla = EVIL! :p

omega buster 01-31-2003 01:05 AM

MSNexplorer7: the Best
IE 6: runner up

Orfejs 01-31-2003 06:58 AM

And what is the best part @ MSNexplorer? (an integrated MSN client? ha hah ha).

Tony G 01-31-2003 07:47 AM

Pah! I loathe the MSN Explorer. It's oogleh! :p

Orfejs 02-03-2003 08:02 PM

Bill Gate is going down. Win XP is too sweet.

Rufus69 02-03-2003 08:06 PM
