Forum Duplication Tool

Description
This addon allows you to easily copy/clone/duplicate a forum (and all of its sub-forums).
Content (eg. Threads/Posts) will not be affected.

Usage instructions
Place the file in your Admin Control Panel Directory and point your browser to it, the form should be self-explanatory.

Warning!
This is fast-written Alpha-Code!
Although I did a few tests and it seems to work just fine (not only on my system) I won't give any warranties - use it AS-IS at your own risk.
I strongly advice you NOT to use this in a production environment.

I wrote this on 3.0.6, but should work with all 3.0.x-Versions.

History
0.2 Alpha Fixed a few Bugs, changed some Text, Forum Information now being rebuild automatically
0.3 Fixed wrong parameters for print_forum_chooser()

joeychgo 01-26-2005 01:03 AM

I think I know why - but why would I want to do this?

Erwin 01-26-2005 01:54 AM

I think vB3 by default has a forum permission duplicator in Admin CP which I'm guessing is similar.

Andreas 01-26-2005 01:58 AM

Yes, you can duplicate/copy forum permissions by default - but not forums itself.

Xenon 01-26-2005 03:42 PM

I'll definitelly have to use it once vb4 is out ;)

Andreas 01-26-2005 03:48 PM

By that time I guess nobody will post in the vB2 forums any longer, so you could just mass-move all posts out of there and rename the category ;)

Xenon 01-26-2005 04:15 PM

ok, that may be possible as well ;)

but it's contraproductive to advertise your hack ;)

nexialys 01-26-2005 04:20 PM

contraproductive ?! pfft... Xenon wish to be the one to burn the most calories when creating similar forums... justify the salary... ;)

btw, i tested it... i really love the drag-drop tools... nothing to edit, no hack to implement... just great...

btw, why is it said :: Please Rebuild Forum Information! ?????

Rebuild would be better renamed as "Edit", or "Update"... because it's kinda hard to rebuild when there is no such feature.. ;)

Andreas 01-26-2005 04:28 PM

Hmm, in my ACP (under Import & Maintenance / Update Counters) it is called Rebuild Forum Information?

lol I love hearing u guys talk...I understand about......0.1222 percent of it lol...I heard vb4 and I jumped up though :)...when, how long, how many times and how hard? LOL.

Thanks for hack
Big Curt

@bigcurt8998 ... i don't think it's the place to discuss this... we always try to keep the content of the discussions focussed on the main subject...

btw, goto vbulletin.com if you want to ask.. they are the ones to write it!

Mobeater 06-25-2005 01:49 AM

I installed your duplicator.php, however, unlike the success story above, no matter what I do, it always displays the next page with "You must specify the Forum you want to duplicate" and doers not create the duplicates.

Anyhelp here would be great, I do have a table prefix if that matters.

I have 16 Forums that have 13 sub-forums under them. If I could figure this out it would be great, but I seem to have met my match here.

Vb version is 3.0.7

Thanks in advance.

Seems like the parameters for print_forum_chooser() did change in vBulletin 3.5, and I did not notice this when I ported it to 3.5 - and back-ported then changes then ;)
Should be working now.

Mobeater 06-25-2005 05:18 AM
