I would really appreciate it if someone could make a hack for vBulletin to work as a frontend for a BitTorrent Tracker, displaying at a minimum the leechers, seeds, and downloads. This has already been done for IPB, so I dont' see why it shouldn't be done for vB.

So anyone up to it? :D

I think im right in thinking that vBulletin doesnt support warez/p2p

& as not many sites will want this feature its more of a custome hack u want.

BitTorrent isn't really warez, as the software itself is legal. Running the trackers are legal as well.

All someone else would have to do is so that when a download is posted, the seeds/leechers/downloads would be called as well, probably using scrape.

In theory I know how this would work, but I know nothing about PHP, so I unforunately can't make this hack myself. :)

Then why use that hack + take the seed part out of IPB script/hack then u got it :)

I always wanted to get one of this. I had one in my old Invision board, now i have switched over to VB.. so wondering if anyone has these sort of hack ?

It basically scrapes info from each .torrent file and display them wherever want it to display.

The Bittorrent system isn't illegal or warez.. Its just a technolgy. Someone pls give this a try :)

people think that P2P is used only for piracy...

i have to remember them that IBM, Microsoft and other big companies are using P2P sharing protocol like Torrent to share their work together...

just Microsoft, have the biggest BigTorrent-like network between developpers just to exchange, like we would do on a OS-CVS group... IBM is developping a Net-Radio transmition system based on P2P, and Yahoo use is similar G2P(generator to person) system for the Launch website...

people with minimal knowledge of a technology are the one to complain that piracy is behing the wall... but remember.... no piracy == no development !

I have local bands that have their music and would love for people to hear their music especially on my forums...

so I know I have a legitimate use for it.

I would also be interested in this hack. My site is about a band that allows taping at its shows.

VBTT is a very good addon, I've been using it for 6 months now :)
I/we use it for sharing Metallica and other bands bootlegs, similar to STG but much smaller. It works great with subscriptions too, its paid for for vB3 licence and a couple of months of hosting.
Its worth every dime!

It uses VBTT version 1.4 and I'm currently testing on my testboard version 2

I have installed it, but it had a main bug that developer don't know how to fix , I think he's working on this now.
When one installs vbtt on a Vb3 Forum , Vb3 thumbnail function in attachments doesn't work anymore. This's very bad because without thumbs you lost a very useful function of vb3.
I hope this will be fixed.

Well if you guys like this www.xboard.us i can provide the code.As such this is my 1st php code and I am still working on optimizing the code and adding more features to integrate torrents in vb and make the whole system automated.

The ip stuff can also be displayed but i dont understand y any member would be interested in loking at ips :roll: when stats in numbers are already provided.. and also didnt want to increase server load:D

I didn't see anything that showed the status of the tracker (ratio, speed, list of torrents, etc) like mine does.

Ratio
Ours is a free board and we have lots of members on dialups. Hence due to thier low speed we havnt implemented ratio stats or bannning ppl with low ratio. We believe in a community where ppl seed because they should not because they r forced to.

Speed
The speed of a tracker is not the real speed and is updated every minute (depends upon tracker) . We neva felt any need to display speed.

List of torrents
If you display the list of torrents ppl will download directly from the list. The basic purpose of a board is to let members surf the board and listing is just opposing the purpose of board.

However the main thing in this hack is integration, getting more stats is just adding 1 more word in the query.

btw you are using VBTT :D which costs 100 euro: :rolleyes: , i coded this myself and was ready to share it as a free ware for those who r needy:)

VBTT is suitable for converting whole site into a torrent 1 .. we r running torrents in just 1 forum keeping the other forums clean :)

vbtt v2 is work under progress, and vbtt v1 is going open source :)
