What is the first thing you're going to do when you install vB3?

There's too many things I'd like to do!!!

Let's see, first i'll just look through the whole thing, every single page everywhere, then I'll make hacks for it ;).

rake 06-11-2003 06:29 PM

I think i'll first make a copy of my offline forum, then upgrade it to vb3, and then start analyzing the code. :D

assassingod 06-11-2003 06:31 PM

Look through all the files then see how it works. Mess around with the admin CP. And release the first vB3 hack:D:D

N9ne 06-11-2003 06:35 PM

It's going to be a HUGE rush for the 1st released vB3 hack but I figure I won't bother because a few months down the line, no one will care :D

assassingod 06-11-2003 06:37 PM

I am literally bursting to release to first hack.
 :bunny: :insanesmilie:

edot so excited i cant even type,.

Link14716 06-11-2003 06:49 PM

For the first 30 minutes I'll probably stare absent-mindedly at the Admin CP, then I'll look through it and start getting familiar with the code, then I'll convert my hacks and make new ones.

rake 06-11-2003 07:00 PM

All we need now is a separate vb3 hacking forum.

Haha, nice edot ;)

assassingod 06-11-2003 07:05 PM

Oopsies, proof that I can't type during this moment of excitement.

/me takes a few moments to calm down...

Template engine. Not overwhelmingly impressed with anything else except that it's written a hell of a lot better, at least astetically.

Zach 06-11-2003 07:31 PM

Go visit my girlfriend

Ryan Ashbrook 06-11-2003 07:36 PM

Check out the Admin CP most likely, see the functions, then look at the PHP coding used. ^_^

Did you mean aesthetically? :ogre:

"ascetically" (which you spelled wrong) doesn't make any sense. It means "A person who renounces material comforts and leads a life of austere self-discipline, especially as an act of religious devotion." ;)

filburt1 06-11-2003 07:59 PM

It means I can't spell right when I feel uber-tired and having written in evil Java for the past couple weeks :p

N9ne 06-11-2003 08:00 PM

Ahh this wait is killing me, I'm perfectly happy to wait 8 months for it, but when it's a matter of days it kills me :(

In that case, John just e-mailed me! He said that the announcement was incorrect! Everybody but you will be able to download it on Friday! You'll have to wait...*reads message* 8 months. :)

Talisman 06-11-2003 08:21 PM

Have to say I'm almost dreading it. I was in way over my head when I started at 2.2.6 and I haven't been brave enough to try any upgrades.

I've learned an awful lot reading what you guys post and installing around 80 hacks. But I've got a long way to go before I'd be ready for this.

(Sigh.)

Jethro 06-11-2003 08:21 PM

Probably wait a day to download to save Jelsoft's server  Hey we should be running a book on how many online at vbulletin.com come friday, should be ballastic.

Like some one said will install on test rig and play around with the Admin CP to see what's new and improved.

Then probably spend time wondering if we should upgrade (apparently not a given, with hacks etc). Write a review for a site. And wait for the techos to decide either way. :)

N9ne 06-11-2003 08:26 PM

What would you guys' reaction be if vB3 is delayed for a further 4 months? I think I'd just give up and downgrade to 1.1.5 :D

Xenon 06-11-2003 08:30 PM

the question itself is very useless.

What is the first thing you're going to do when you isntall vb3?
The answer is: you will edit the config.php file and then you will upload the file, there is no other possibility to install vb3.....

If the question is meant at what will you do when vb3 is here?
Well i'll download it, and then play chess.
Then reading through the first problems, killing someones dreams,......., then i'll install it on a testserver .....

Don't even think it

Xenon, l think the question has merit. Maybe rephrased to first thing after install perhaps.

colicab-d 06-11-2003 09:45 PM

me i,ll look thru the admin cp, then get to work on one of the first utterly stunning designs for vb3 ;)

bgtking 06-11-2003 09:56 PM

Sit back and be amazed at the features. vB3 should jump start my forums with popularity again. :D

Boofo 06-11-2003 10:25 PM

I'll sit back and play with my 2.2.9 version and continue hacking on it and watch all of you who decide to upgrade when it is released have fun squashing all of the bugs that are certain to come with it. Then, when you guys finally get most of the bugs out of it and it is running somewhere near stable, I will take a look at upgrading to version 3. I don't need the headaches. You guys can have them. ;)

sonic3d 06-11-2003 11:04 PM

i really dont care about vb3.

jamslam 06-11-2003 11:17 PM

after i install it on a test directory, i'll take a look around the admin cp, fiddle with options, and the take a look at the php coding... I... CAN'T... WAIT!

Dark_Wizard 06-11-2003 11:20 PM

I'm not going to rush it with my clan hacks as I too want to look at the code and also wait till it's at the very least RC quality before I rewrite....

Tony G 06-11-2003 11:53 PM

I'll get used to the CP first, and then the Template System before looking at some of the file code. Then maybe install some hacks to see how that part works. :)

Shuriken-UK 06-11-2003 11:54 PM

ill go down the pub lol, nah i'll see what the style/postbits are like (oh and make some special emoticons)

Tony G 06-11-2003 11:55 PM

I wonder who's that die hard for vB3 that they'd stay on all friday...waiting! :p

I'd probably work on some Template Mods, get the dice going to others would follow suit. :)

blackice912 06-12-2003 02:11 AM

I'll install a test copy, check out all the cool things, wait a few days to see how many people actually upgraded their forums that have 10,000 members and 142,384,423 posts to see if they have any major problems, then proceed from there.

Erwin 06-12-2003 02:49 AM

The moment it is released, I will spend a good 1-2 weeks porting over all my custom hacks from my current forums to vB3 - it will take a lot of time, as my current forums are hacked to the extreme. :)

trafix 06-12-2003 06:06 AM

Sorry I refuse to make a mess of my jeans over VB3 ......

Yep I will download it and set up a test board on a clean piece of server space that i have got, and then take a look at the coding, template system etc. but i dont imagine that I would upgrade my board to VB3 for a while.

The first hacks that I will re-code will be VB Trader and Arrow Ads :)

Tony G 06-12-2003 11:36 AM

I still think in Beta stages that the code is subject to big changes, so it'd be safer to release hacks once the final is out? Unless you want to update them again when a new beta or final version of vB3 comes out where it may mess with code placements etc.

Same goes with Template Mods. =/ *Shrugs* Don't know what to do..

Ian Cunningham 06-12-2003 11:51 AM

I probably won't upgrade for months, I have hacked my board so much it doesnt even look like vB anymore!

I'm DREADING upgrading!

N9ne 06-12-2003 02:57 PM

Tony, no point in template mods as the style that comes with BETA3 is not the proper style, it's the style you see at vbulletin.com, the new style will come with the gold release.

S.Shady 06-12-2003 03:26 PM

i will not upgrade my forums. I will install fresh copy. I dont really care about the forums now ill just save the members and import the members. check out the style's and template and import the site style into vb3 then check out all the options.

ill wait for the final to hack it.

Dean C 06-12-2003 03:57 PM

I'm definately going to check the admin functions :) If Scott hasn't put a good file upload function in there with error checking i'm going to drive up to glasgow and smash his computer with a hammer ;)

Delete Karma, Change the QRB so that it doesnt have to be clicked to be activated, and looks vB2-ish, change &do= to &action=, and then check out what its like:)
