Windows Server 2003
Free trial: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserv...l/default.mspx
I won't be using it because Windows p***es me off as it is. |
What's wrong with windows :P?
|
IIS sucks big ones dude.
Full of bugs and errors, crashes are just one part of the package. I'm going to one of the opening conferances for it on May 15th near my home town. :) I'd like to see what they really improved (not to mention without risking my own server). |
I think you missed the ":p" in his post ;)
|
I saw, but still presented my opinion. :p No offence Dean. ;)
|
Wow...
550MB;) *Hmm...I'd say under an hour to download:p Satan |
I downloaded it..... installed it..... hated it..... formated...... installed win 98 :)

See there are 2 groups of anti-ms
1. The ones who hate it for its price 2. The ones who do alot of heavy duty network related data change and design. I can assuer you most of you are in #1, Filburt is in #2. I can garuntee you that Windows is a great OS. If your stupid then you will get hacked, if you don't do stupid things then its a perfect O/S. Windows does not just crash, if you running a ++++ computer, and you run 6 instances of ps7, 2 of Corel Draw, and 3 of DW and Flash, you don't blame it on Windows. Im a beta tester for Microsoft, have beta tested everything, all betas have bugs, and are there to be fixed. On another note, I know 100% that not all of you have a valid copy of XP, Many of you have the FCKWG (or something) CD that was leaked earlier, and its a real buggy version, and you guys do not upgrade because you are afraid MS is going to track you down and kick you. I know what I am talking about, because I work at a place with over 1000 computers, 500 running Windows XP and Windows 2000, 250 Macs, and another 250 raid servers running Linux and Windows, they all work together fine, and they put it through hell, if they can put the Windows O/S through the hell Ive seen them do, I am sure you guys can't even put 15% of what they do at home. Again this is the plus of buying your liscenses, you get that extra bit of support and valid upgrades. Also another note, these days the people from group #1 are aged from 11-16 (majority) if you know in heart your in group #1 , please do not ever speak publically of your Anti-MS thoughts. -------------- Now on another note, I have been beta testing Windows 2003 Server at a machine at home, and 4 servers at work havn't really got a chance to put them through some real live testing on the network, but it is holding up fine, some minor bugs to fix, and some of the administration programs need a little recoding, run into couple of errors there while managing client computers on the network. |
None taken shovel ;)

Ok in my personal Opinion windows is a great Os especially Xp, I have a lcensed version of it (thnk god), however the only bug i seem to get is sometimes a bit of slowdown when browsing with multiple windows, in some cases it,ll take a good 60+ seconds for a window to actually close, I dont pretend to knoww hat im talking about as its probs not windows, but anyway ive had xp for about a year now and its been fine with me, as for servers etc i,ll stick with linux not because i hate windows etc ( i was on a mates 2002 server for ages) , but more beacuse that a lot of servers running windows dont seem to over php, and from ahving experience with php and windows / apache 2 ive had a few probs with certain versions of php...
my 2 cents, sorry for my ignorance |
I hate Windows because it is poorly programmed and crashy (yes, Windows XP is still not stable) and has a very inconsistent and frustrating UI. OS X works, doesn't get in the way, and is stable. Hell, when installing hardware, you often don't even need a driver CD.
|
Also, Window's stated that Windows XP would never crash
then in the small print they say it wont crash if you dont install anything Im a linux and mac fan myself, XP just messes me about |
i use the good old win98, i would have stayed with dos i think if there wouldn't be that I-net thing ;)
all i can say i'm the one who achieved more linux crashes in my work than win crashes (relative to time of working with it) ^^ |
Linux NEVER crashes for me.
And win98 is the devil:p Its evil! |
no i am the devil :p
and it just crashes sometimes if you know what you're doing :p learn to use windows :p |
No thanks, I still cant operate doors properly;)
|
Stefan use 98

KDE is good for me, pretty stable.
Aw:( |
If I have to use Linux then I'd prefer to use Gnome :D However I think I will allways prefer Windows (NT based versions) to Linux or any other OS.

I used to in section #1 just hated windows . Or another way of putting it ..i hated PC's, after a few years i got my first pc & got introduced to the devil aka winblows 95 (floppy disc version).
Then i used a dual boot system. Now this weekend i moved my trustworthy linux firewall into the hallway after crashing (1 year , 3 months , 2 days uptime). And created a machine out of spare parts (Amd Duron 800, 512mb SDram. Various Nic's (ISA IBM EtherJet , Sis900 100TX , DEC 490x) , 60gb & 40gb ide dirves (ata100) and a few other spare parts). Got my Beta codes out and downloaded 2003. It's now been installed for 24 hours, and after a few initial gripes everthing is running perfect. Havnt installed any firewall , apart from using the built in one (not the noob one). Looks nicely built and is compareable to iptables. Also another note is my internal network is IPV6 based & was easier to setup then most linux systems ive used. However as with all MS products .. Room for improvement. |
Here's some looks into the new Windows Server 2003 from my friend rake's p.o.v. :)

If your an experienced Unix user than your box should have no problems at all. I still get the blue_screen_of_death every other time I install a program on my XP system. :p Professional Windows User; how in the hell do you become that?! :D |

I ran XP for 3 months on a 1.5 ghz system with 256 megs of ram and it crashed often. I can run Redhat 9 on a much lower system with no problems at all. |
i think the same could be said about windows, i've used my win xp for almost a year now and have uninstalled stuff and reinstalled stuff, but rarely have had any crashes at all, as long as you scan for viruses and defragment once in a while it's fine

Ive been using Windows XP for a long time now, upgraded from win 2k without a format (frist time ive ever done that), I figured it would be really unstable because I dident format, here we are a year later on the same pc, thats had many programs installed and un-installed and re-installed and XP has only crashed once.
Im not much of a Microsoft fan, but I have to admit, XP is the best OS ive ran so far (yet to use os-x tho, need to find the money for a mac frist). |
If I just stick to my Mac I'll be good. ;) [nods] :D

True. But I was just looking at how hard it is to become "Linux Certified". :D

I'm with Keptic 100%.
I've had Windows 2003 for a while now. Before Microsoft released the free version on their site. Can you honestly say, after viewing my screenshots, that you DON'T like it? I found it to be very stable, just like my windows 2000. I've had it for over 2 years and it hasn't once crashed and i have never gotten the blue screen of death. The whole sarcastic attitude against windows is mostly adopted by kiddies who can't form an opinion for themselves. They hear people say it, so why not? |
I work casually and professionally with Windows and have developed in many languages on pretty much every major platform. Think again before you call people like myself "kiddies."
|
It wasn't directed at you, or at anyone here for that matter. It was just a general observation.
