Quick Registration Pop-up Window for Unregistered Visitors

1 Attachment(s)
Basically, this simplifies the registration page into entering just your password, user-name, and e-mail address. What it does is create a pop-up window with the quick-registration and pops up if the visitor viewing your forums is not recognized to have an account.

If you don't want it in a pop-up window, simply, when you open the *.txt file attached to this post, copy the HTML code I give you for the pop-up window, rip out the code starting with <form> and ending with </form>, then place it somewhere in the unreg template.

You can see an example of the popup here: http://caz.psyker.net/
I don't mind if you test the register out by creating a new account, but I do ask that you don't flood my board with useless and blank ones...I don't enforce e-mail protection on my board, so please don't abuse this.

This isn't a hack...hence the "Template Modification" forum. Aside from that, this is very easy to "install," and doesn't require unnecessary altering of PHP files.

I have a feeling he edited PHP files just so he could place it in the "Full Hacks" forum...

Plus, I setup a pop-up window to target unregistered (as well as logged-out) users.

I must say this is a very cool template modification :)

I myself wont install it as a i hate pop-ups of any nature but i'm sure that a lot of people will find this useful.

Thanks for sharing it :)

________

Btw can i make a suggestion about your forums... You have the top buttons saved in the *.png file extension. May i suggest you change them to gif's because gif's are of a smaller size and take less time to load :)

Regards

Thanks for the suggestion...but, while I think it's clear an 8-bit gif is a smaller size than a 24-bit png, I'd also like to inform you that an 8-bit png is smaller than an 8-bit gif :)
But, if they were loading slow for you, I suppose I could simply convert them to 8-bit. That'd half the loading time. :)

OK man,calm down.
Just merely pointing out that someone else has done a similar hack, whether it be PHP or template. ;)

Hmm...I was calm...just simply clarifying and responding to you. Maybe you took what I said the wrong way. Sorry

Michael2 11-24-2002 01:29 PM

Thanks!

Hi !!!

This is excellent.
I was looking for something like it for a while.
Guys; I think he pointed out where you can use the Modification without it popping up.

This is cool. :) Well done. It's good to do things via templates if you can. A lot of the things that people release hacks for can be done using just creative template editing. Also, don't forget the phpinclude template - the place to put global php code with just a template edit! ;)

It looks real nice bro, even though popups stink. Question I have for you. Has this increased membership to your forums? What do your users say about this?

alkatraz 12-02-2002 09:45 AM

Perfect! Thanks

corsacrazy 12-02-2002 02:46 PM

wouldnt mind this template mod if it only shows when the guests clicks a register button, otherwise people may think its just an advert !

FrankR310 12-15-2002 05:11 AM

can you have it so that it only pops up once for a user? as it is now, it seems to popup each time i go to the site. i think the popup would be bearable if it didnt popup after the first time.

possible?

thanks

ezoq 12-24-2002 03:59 PM

Currently i have my guests signing up, and not confirming their accounts. they aren't seeing the message that says they need to respond to the email because it is displayed in the same 300x400 window... is their any way to make it happen in a new window?

flup 12-26-2002 01:53 PM

***INSTALLS*** thx!

And the one from g-force2k2 isn't really similar.
I like this one more. ;) GJ!

My question is the same as Frank's...

Can this be setup so a visitor only sees this pop up window once instead of on every page load?

XrayHead 01-18-2003 01:18 PM

I have installed this hack but it dose not seem to work.
I do not get a message saying thank you for registering like on your forum.
I have checked the code and cant see any difference in my site to yours. Do I need another file to say thanks for registering?

Also on your site after I get the message [Thanks for registering] the pop-up box then shows ERROR 404 file dose not exist !!! Should this not say (Thanks for registering Please close this window and reload the home page) !!!!!

I like the idea of the hack but I have had to remove it at present until it works correctly.

By the way you need to delete the account I created on you forum [ LeeB ].
:ermm:

Thanks for the hack and any help would be much apreciated.
