This might be a fun one. I have learned that troublemakers go away if they are utterly ignored, but they cause problems if they are banned.
A hack that might be fun would make an abuser's posts visible to themselves - but nobody else besides an admin. Not even the moderators. Epinions.com sort of does this with a feature called blocking. If you block somebody, they can be utterly invisible to you. The vbulletin way still shows you that a person is posting. Epinions way, you are oblivious to their existance. Amy |
I remember seeing this somewhere already - and I have asked recently about how the ignore system works.
i'd like it, someone make it! |
This is a wonderful idea! :D
|
I agree. that way they wouldn't even know they were um...quasi banned.
invisible to all... I love it. |
This is called the Dummy Flag Hack, everyone wants it but no one has made it as of yet.
|
We have one guy who must've been banned over a 100 times by IP by Username by email, every which way possible. He's rather comical but can be too much at times. Something like this would really piss him off ...
Of course admins and mods would have to be able to view the posts (for $hits and giggles). Im not sure how to do this but it would be cool if went by user group. *goes back to php book* |
yea like an option that says ignore user....
But I wonder if you can do this.... When that user posts, he sees where it says Last Post By : that user But when another user looking at who posted last, it dont show that username, it shows the person above them. |
That would be great
|
Hmmm.... I'll try to create that hack. :)
I just have to finish another hack first... |
Wow...great idea. Gets rid of the problem without them even knowing it :D
|
Exactly - this will be installed if its made.
|
I dunno though, it sounds rather mean; if someone is banned for being an idiot, they should be notified. I may could understand 100 times; but this hack would probably cause alot of controvercy on the forums once the ignored user pms a friend about it and everyone gets worried that perhaps noone sees their post and it is utter chaos ... uh, sorry i was rambling. Sounds like a neat hack...
|
You are probably right nafae. That's what happens on Epinions all the time.

So what happens when the ignored users logs out, and they find out that even they can't see thier posts? They will know that there posts are invisible.

The person who writes the hack could make it so admins, mods and the person who's bbuserinfo matches the post could see it. :) |

I believe Joshua's point is still a valid one though. All someone needs to do is log out. Then when they view the forums they will be viewing as 'Unregistered' and not themselves. There really isn't anyway of stopping this unless you disallow guests from viewing your forums. |
but honestly, how often does one log out?
|
It still is better because it takes some time for them to figure it out, when you ban someone they know they are banned immediatly as soon as they come on but with a dummy flag it takes them a while.
|
I agree about the logging out thing...
But it doesn't have an impact, they won't realise immediately. It slows down the process of banned visitors more difficult for them. I'd still *love* to see this hack :) |
this is a great hack. The user wont find out especially if you have to register to see anything on my forums anyway :D
I actually think the person would just think people are ignoring him, and they wil eventually leave, I dont think someone would say, hmm no one is saying anything about my posts, and automatically log out to see if they can see stuff... They will only do that if the admins or mods tell their users they installing a hack like this |
The hack is almost done. :)
I'll publish it after I got some sleep and after I sorted out the last missing things. :) |
I lub j00!
:p |
To fix the unregistered problem, simply have the user also ignored to guests.
One of my mods requested a tool for mods that would do the following: The mod tool would be the ability to put folks in eachothers ignore lists. Mods in a forum would have a screen with two or more boxes. The tool could be set up with three scenarios: 1) Two posters set to ignore eachother 2) All listed posters set to ignore a specific poster 3) A specific poster set to ignore all listed posters Just some food for thought...We all know that banning by IP only works for about a day or two... Just out of curiosity, is it possible to stop mods from being ignored? This will be a sweet hack! |
I just need to throw together an admin tool to control the ignore status and then the whole thing is ready for beta. :)
|
Beta released: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthrea...threadid=33394 :)
Just let me know what's missing and I'll add it. :) |
I think I may have been the originator of this idea. Was this ever done? Here is my post from last February: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...&threadid=8942

I saw the thread, but the actual hack seems to be gone.
