Tapatalk Signature Remover: TNG (Stop Tapatalk Signature Spam)

Important Note: After discussions with various people I am no longer certain this mod upholds the values I usually support. It can be argued this mod is removing branding another developer had put into their mod, and like I wouldn't create a mod that removes branding from say DbTech mods, perhaps this mod goes too far.

I am not removing the mod for the time being but I am not supporting it any further either.

I would urge people who do not want to see Tapatalk signature in every post either purchase their plan or remove Tapatalk completely. I will not do any further work on this mod nor support it unless I get affirmative consent from Tapatalk to do so.

Sorry.

Tapatalk has recently decided to stop allowing most forum admins to disable their "Sent from my [Whatever] Using Tapatalk" signature spam from every message posted with Tapatalk. The only way to disable it now is to pay for a monthly account.

This mod is simple. Once installed it stops such signatures from being saved to the database and also scans all posts (as they are displayed) and removes them from any existing posts in your database.

It's extremely simple to use, there are no settings. Simply import the XML file and it is active immediately. Disable or uninstall the mod to stop it from working.

Should work for VB 3.7.x - 4.2.x, all versions.

Sorry no screenshots, nothing really to see.

Note, if you have the old version installed I suggest uninstalling it. You should have one or the other, not both.

New - Version 1.0.1 (product-tapatalksigblocktngbop5-101.xml) Changes:
Looks for "Sent from my..." instead of just "Sent from..." in last line and will delete it if it exists.

Please "Mark as Installed" if you use this. :)
Donations always appreciated. :up:
Nominate MOTM if you LOVE it! ;)

Installed smoothly and working on one of my vB 3.8.x installs.

RichieBoy67 04-10-2016 01:04 AM

Very good idea and working fine! Thank you BOP!

Great mod to take care the default Tapatalk signature formatting.

Pity there is no viable method of nuking those custom Tapatalk sigs.
Example:
Code:

Crafted on a Doohickey using Tapastalk
Sadly I have members that have cloned their forum signatures into their Tapa settings so now I am having to manually delete duplicate bumpf out of posts.

Going to exorcise my forum of Tapa soon.

Thanks.. updated from old version ... :)

As always, your work and quality mods are appreciated... :)

Doug

If you're still seeing already posted sigs you might consider clearing the system cache. If new posts by TT users are still showing sigs, then there is a problem - possibly some other mod interfering.

It will only block tapatalk signatures that start with "Sent from"

Other than that the only reason it wouldn't work is if some other mod was interfering.

Also blocks innocent sentences what start with "Sent from." Verified this earlier.

BirdOPrey5 04-11-2016 06:51 PM

Do you have posts that end with innocent "Sent from xxxxxxxxxx" as the last line of the post that aren't signatures?

Not that I know of, except for the test one I posted. The fact remains, that if a poster starts the last sentence of his post with "Sent from" that line gets wiped.

Like if one should type, as the last line of his post, "Sent from above" or some such.

Maybe add 'tapatalk' to the definition? So that for a last line to be deleted, it has to have both 'Sent from' and 'tapatalk' in it?

Ah that will be it, the guy that is testing it with me's sig comes up as "sent via TapaTalk"

One of the signatures you can choose in the app is just "Sent from my XXXXX" with no mention of Tapatalk. I guess I can add "my" into the match to reduce the "Sent from Above" issue.

Yes I understand the nature of this means that VERY RARELY a innocent sentence with the expressions might get nixed. I don't think it will be a prevalent problem nor do I think it's a major reason not to use this very handy modification.

'Preciate your work.

Does this mod delete or remove tapatalk signature permanently? If I uninstall it will the sigs come back?

Removed ones can't come back.

BirdOPrey5 04-16-2016 07:13 AM

New Version 1.0.1

I've updated the code to require "Sent from my" string to appear in the final line of a post not just "Sent from" this should reduce unintended deletions.

From existing posts made before you installed the mod it merely hides the signatures, they still exist in the text in the database.

For posts made after you install the mod the signature text is blocked from even being saved with the post.

If you ever disable/remove this mode signatures will come back in the posts made before it was installed but not on the posts made after it was installed.

Great work - that's fixed it!

Downloaded the top one for Vb 4.x in case anyone is wondering which one to download

The 101 version is the latest version, that is the one I suggest using. You can download it and upgrade to it by importing it with allow-override set to yes.

Thanks for the update.. :)

It is SPAMMER operation out of China .. :rolleyes:

We started with them when they first opened up under a business premise that no longer exits.

They pulled a bait and switch on forum owners by saying that they would only be using a "paid" client model, with a free trial of a client model.

Once they obtained some critical mass, they pulled this ads scam on everyone... :mad:

We have 27,000 members with a few hundred who use Tapatalk and we're considering discontinuing supporting their client code. We're providing Tapatalk free access to our members who are providing them free revenue off their backs, with no passed on remuneration to the board owner or any of its members.

Don't feel guilty... ;)

You've provided a valuable service to the our community .. :up:

Doug

Not sure if you know much about Tapatalk but they steal user information and even paying for their app does not remove signatures. By default they are on.

Their app has plenty of branding beyond the signatures. Like you said in your app description, Tapatalk spam. That is what it is.

Besides, at this time Tapatalk app users can put whatever they like in their signatures via the "custom" setting thus negating any Taptalk branding. At the end of the day it is just a $10 hustle.

They have legitimate branding on their app and if they wanted same on the forum proper they would put it in the footer, like everyone else.

It can be "argued," sure. But that argument doesn't stand up to any scrutiny - there was NEVER a agreement between TT and site admins to allow any type of spam or branding on their sites. The argument isn't valid since most all branded mods we can example, had the branding AT THE BEGINNING and don't add it later, slipping it in after many installs.

You're doing nothing wrong here and you're not violating any values.

While I appreciate the kind words this thread isn't for debate of Tapatalk's business model. Please keep any further responses on topic of this mod. I'm not debating the issue here.

Hi,
nice Mod :)
But is there an Option to make it Multilanguage or put an Second Variable in the Plugins?
I have Users with English Language and German.
In German the Signature likes " Gesendet von meinem M2 mit Tapatalk"
I would put this "Gesendet von meinem" in the Replacevariable too.
1. Plugin
PHP Code:

if ($this->post['pagetext'])
{

$this->post['pagetext'] = preg_replace ('#Sent from my[ -~]+\s*$#' ''$this->post['pagetext']);

2.Plugin
PHP Code:

if ($this->post['pagetext'])
{

$this->post['pagetext'] = preg_replace ('#Sent from my[ -~]+\s*$#' ''$this->post['pagetext']);

3.Plugin
PHP Code:

$post['message'] = preg_replace ('#Sent from my[ -~]+\s*$#' ''$post['message']);

lapiervb 05-07-2016 11:03 AM

BirdOPrey5 I understand your position on this however let me give you mine. Tapatalk is attempting to extort a $10 per month fee to not spam our forums. They have provided no additional value to justify this monthly fee. This is the most garbage fee I have seen and this mod is the best I have seen in my history here at vb.org. I added it to all of my forums a month ago and I want to thank you very much for creating this mod!

MarkFL 05-11-2016 02:28 AM

Thanks for this product, Joe...and while I know you aren't debating the ethics involved, I had no internal moral dilemma...I didn't hesitate to install it once needed.

I did make a couple of minor changes:

1.) Since I had manually edited the posts to remove the sigs before deciding to install this product, I didn't need the plugin hooked at "postbit_display_complete" and I deleted that.

2.) I wanted any newlines before the spam sig to be removed also, so I changed the regex to:

PHP Code:

$this->post['pagetext'] = preg_replace('#\R+Sent from my[ -~]+\s*$#' ''$this->post['pagetext']);

Bulent Tekcan 10-30-2016 09:20 AM

If you move thread include that signature another location thread show me a empty. I think some problem in that code.

I'm sorry I don't understand the question... maybe a screenshot would help understand what the issue is?

If new post include tapatalk signature thread will show empty after posting.If this is a old post and if you move post to another forum,same post empty again.

BirdOPrey5 10-30-2016 03:01 PM

Why would a new post ever include the tapatalk signature?

Hey Joe,

I have access to Bulent's test site, and the issue is not a result of your product at all.

I think I have Bulent squared away now with additional code to remove all the Tapatalk signatures he is encountering.
