Content Encoding Error when installing vBShout

I apologize if this is a duplicate thread, but I've looked through many other threads regarding Content Encoding Errors and none of them seem to help me.

A little background first. I just recently upgraded my forums to vB5 5.1.1. I completely erased the prior 4.1 forums directory and extracted the vB5 package, then ran the upgrade tool to migrate the database. Prior to this I deleted all the vBulletin third party products I had installed.

After getting nginx configured to work properly, I downloaded vBShout (vB5) v6.1.0a8 [Lite] and extracted the content of the uploads folder to my forum directory. I then went in to Hooks and Product and clicked Add/Import Product, then put

Code:

./packages/dbtechvbshout/xml/product_dbtechvbshout.xml
into the "import XML from your server" line. When I clicked the import button I got the following:

Code:

Hooks & Products System
Importing Product, Please Wait...

Content Encoding Error

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

When I look at the product page again, it appears to be installed, but I have no idea if it is installed correctly. I do not have gzip compression enabled in the forums so I'm not sure what else to look at.

Oh, and as an FYI, I tried this is IE, chrome, and firefox with similar results. Only difference was that the progress bar animation only works in IE for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can easily repro this if there is a way to gather more information.

This should be posted in the vBshout add-on thread..

Questions/Problems regarding modifications/styles need to be asked in the modification/style thread. That is where the support for modification/style is - not out here in the main forums. Please note that if a modification/style is unsupported (or even if it says it is supported), you may be on your own if you chose to install it.

It was definitely not obvious to me how these forums are structured so I did my best. Feel free to move this topic wherever it should be.

You will need to repost for help in the appropriate thread.

I have discovered that every product I install results in this same error, not just vBShout. Can you link me to the proper place I should post this question?

As I just said, this is not specific to vBShout as I initially thought. It seems to happen with any product I have tried to install.

As your first post is about this plugin you need to post in there for support

You are not listening to me, nevermind, I will find the right place to post myself...

Are you sure you are importing it correctly? Are you going to Products & Plugins > Manage Products > Add/Import Product?

Yes, I am importing correctly. I discovered the problem was that I was double gzip encoding the content. I had gzip enabled in php-fpm and nginx. When I disabled it in php-fpm the content encoding error went away and I can install all products without problem. I'm not sure why I didn't get a content encoding error with all content when I had it double encoded, but at least it is working now.

I disagree, this had nothing to do with that product, and I made a point to mention that in my second post. However, I believe this thread is solved so there is no need to argue about that point. :)

ForceHSS 07-04-2014 02:31 PM

You had a problem with the Shoutbox from dbtech I don't see how you say it does not belong in that plugin topic even Lynne told you twice to post in the correct section ie the link that I posted

ozzy47 07-04-2014 02:39 PM

Either way, issue has been resolved, I see no further need for discussion on the topic. :)
