vbulletin login issues
every time people visit my vbulletin site they have to login and retype password EVEN when the -remember me- button was selected.
How can I fix this so people do not have to keep logging into the site? |
Sounds like the infamous WWW issue......
Try logging into your site using www.yoursitedotcom and without www, just using yoursitedotcom. Which are you having this issue with? |
what is the WWW issue???
--------------- Added [DATE]1392209531[/DATE] at [TIME]1392209531[/TIME] --------------- no that is not the problem - it happens when I leave the site for a while I think it automatically logs me out - I would like for the useers to always be logged in - |
Do you have remember me checked?
There is an edit here that will make it checked for all members |
I do check it and it does not remember me...
|
Can we get a link to your site?
Do you have an .htaccess file effecting your site at all? (Default vbulletin has NO .htaccess file!) |
Yeah, make sure your cookies are set at default, your paths in site details are correct.
The www issue he is referring too is that if your domain is set as www and you do not add the www when you type in the address then your cookies will sometimes not allow a log in. or it could be the other way around that your domain is set to not use www. You can add something in your htaccess that will forward to the correct domain. For example, my site is set to not use any www. everyone who comes to the site though by adding the www will get the right domain without. |
site is www.offshorehype.com

What do you have under site details in the admincp and are you using htaccess? |
yes you did some work for me a month or so ago!
I can not find anything that says htaccess - would that be under "cookies and http header options"? |
Sorry, I am a bit busy today but if you still have this issue tomorrow I would be happy to log in and take a look free of charge. This is usually a simple issue resolved with a setting.
Did this issue just start happening? No need to worry about htaccess yet. Chances are the issue is with your url setting though there are many steps to troubleshoot if that does not solve the issue. What do you have under the site details setting for your forumpath, etc? At any rate feel free to email me. |
Sorry, I would have replied.... have been AFK.!
|
You definitely do not have your cookie domain set up correctly.
Since you allow users to login to your site via both http://www.yoursite.com and just yoursite.com, then you MUST have your cookie domain (AdminCP > Settings > Options > Cookies and HTTP Header Options > Cookie Domain) set to ".yoursite.com" (no quotes, but note the period at the beginning) or your users will have problems. |
awesome, thank you Lynne.
Richie - if that doesn't work, I will email you again! thank you... having this support site is so valuable - cant thank you guys enough |
No problem. I try to figure out as many of these problems as I can because it helps me learn too.
I am sure Lynne's solution will work. I had mentioned cookie settings in my first reply and after that I just assumed you tried it. I should have been a bit more specific. At any rate, if you need help let me know. It should not take more than a couple minutes. Thanks |
that did not work! Richie, if you sign up on the forum, can I then give you admin rights?
|
Sure, private message me and I will take a look. I am on a tablet right now with no power so I am limited with what I can do but I should be able to check the settings for you.
