Need opinions
 

I have a style that I paid for. The site I purchased the style from went out of service soon after and therefore was not there for me when I wanted support. So, if I shared this style (without charging for it) would I be doing wrong?

It's not a common style as I've not seen any other site using it. It's what I would categorize as a light style. Definitely not for those who favor dark styles.

My gut instinct wants to share it with anyone that wants it since I feel I got screwed over buying it with no support.

What are some of your opinions?

Depends on the licensing agreement. I would be willing to bet though, they did not allow sharing of it. Even though they are out of business the licensing agreement still hold true. :)

The licensing agreement was broken when he failed to even reply to my support requests.

To me it's wrong, I recently was discussing this with Max Taxable and some others in a different thread. I personally don't care if they went our of business to me they still retain copyright and their work should not be "copied" or "modified and redistributed" in any manner.

I'm no lawyer though so with that being said is it legal? No clue but if my gut feeling says this does not seem right then I'm steering clear from stuff like that just to have peace of mind and sleep at night ;).

Probably not. Businesses going south happens all the time. Still you got something for your money, didn't you? You paid for and got a style. You probably paid a few dozen bucks at best for that style - do you really expect to get a guarantee for lifetime support for that kind of money?

I needed support after only 3 weeks. It was then I noticed a setting on the style did not work. The style comes with a side panel that shows all the time allowing the width to be switched instantly also font types and background image. I'm not running the style now do to that.

Yeh it wasn't a lot of money for the style but he didn't have any trouble taking the money. It's more a matter of principal. Yes there are still matters of principals.

Whether the site you got it from still exists is irrelevant.
Unless you have specific permission to share it, you would be sharing it illegally.

And you didn't have any trouble downloading the style.

Unfortunately stuff like this happens, I doubt there is anything different you could have done.

Before hand you could ask for some guaranteed minimum support contract and specific penalties if that is broken including your permission to share it.

It is unlikely someone would agree to it, but maybe you could bargain a personal email address out of them in case the site closes down.

I've left several messages on the site that has the same domain but different business. I have not received any replies. So, lesson learned.

I wait for replies like this from those who have been in this industry much longer than I!
